Summer is in full swing. Kids are out of school. Families are on the move. Work is slowing down at most companies which is the perfect time to turn your attention to your finances.

It’s the 163rd day of the year which means we have 202 days left in the year. That’s more than enough time to work on three major financial goals before the year is over.

First step is to get clear on your goals, what do you want to achieve financially before the end of the year? Perhaps, you want to pay off debt, save more or get a new job?

Hopefully, one of your financial goals is to invest more, specifically invest more in income-producing assets.

There are a number of ways to invest for income. If you have not downloaded our 5 Easy Ways to Invest for the Lifestyle You Want, make sure to take a look.

Why do I advocate investing for income instead of growth?

Because when you invest for income, you’ll have a consistent stream of cash flow for the rest of your life.

Think about it.

All of our lives, we’ve been told to invest for growth but I truly believe there’s a missing piece to the investment puzzle.

That is investing for income.

While the primary way to invest for income is residential and commercial real estate, there are a number of other ways to invest for income.

Just to name a few:

• Dividend-paying stocks

• Bonds

• Farmland

• Peer-to-peer lending

• Royalties

And REITs, real estate investment trusts.

REITs are companies that own or finance income-generating real estate properties.  Investors buy shares of the REIT and the REIT uses the funds to make investments. Investors receive income in the form of rent payments or interest on real estate debt.

This wee here at ITB, we’re covering REITs and how to invest in them.  In our weekly Facebook Live, we will cover: the types of REITs available for investments; how to evaluate a REIT for investment; the taxation of REITs and platforms to use to find and invest in REITs.

Historically, REITs have outperformed stocks. The average return on U.S. REITs is 9.6% with 2021 returns being one of the highest on record. In 2021, U.S. REITs annual return was 43.06%.

If you’re not already familiar with REITs or would like to increase your exposure, make sure to join us this week in our Get In The Black Facebook group for this week’s live on REITs.

Hope to see you there!
